Happy New Year! Can you believe that it’s 2013 already?!
As I look back on 2012, I just feel like overwhelming sense of how blessed I’ve been, and I get excited looking forward to 2013 because I feel like God is just going to keep on pouring His blessings on my life, and on yours.
Just like most people have probably made some New Year’s Resolutions, I too, have put a few on a list. Here they are:
- Read the whole Bible by January 1, 2014. I’ve tried to read the whole Bible before, but I always get stuck on certain books that seem to be boring for me. My goal is to delve into God’s Word this year with the foreknowledge that the words I’m reading aren’t just words, but they’re words that were spoken by the breath of God.
- Grow closer to God, personally. I figure if I focus on putting my relationship with God first, everything else will fall into place: my relationship with my husband, with our families, with my friends, my job…everything.
- Participate in the 2013 Siesta Scripture Memory Team. This is something done through Beth Moore’s, Living Proof Ministry. I saw Beth Moore tweet about it and so I did some research and thought that it was a great idea!
Basically, the Siesta Scripture Memory Team involves those who sign up to be on the team, memorizing 2 verses per month. On the 1st of every month and the 15th of every month, you go to her blog and comment with your Name, City, Scripture, Reference and Bible Version. You memorize the verse that you write on her blog, and then from there I’m not too sure what happens, to be honest because I’ve never done this before! But it sounds fun 🙂
Today begins the first day of the Scripture Memory Team and already there’s over 300 women who have committed to memorizing a scripture over the next 2 weeks. I wanted to share with you the verse that I’ve decided to learn between now and January 15th, and also tell all of my girl friends about it in case this sounds like something that would be fun to you! You can click on the link a few paragraphs above and it will take you to Beth Moore’s blog post with complete instructions on what you need to do to become a part of the team.
The verse that I’ve chosen to memorize is 1 Peter 1:24. I chose this verse because I think that it goes with the New Year’s Resolutions that I’ve made. The verse talks about how our earthly bodies and lives will wither just like grass and fall just as flowers do. But…there’s always a but. But the Word of the LORD remains forever. I think that that is my New Year’s prayer both for myself and for anyone who is reading this, that we may focus not on the things that are seen, but on the things that are unseen because the things that are seen will all wither and fall someday, but the things that are unseen are forever.
